Minecraft is eating my brain … and I think I may be turning into Bob Ross.

I’ve been doing a few Minecraft videos — here’s a little amuse-bouche showing off one of my prettier constructions.

I don’t want to get in the habit of interrupting the currently-running movie, but I wanted to plug my Minecraft video series. Here’s the latest, where I leave my demesne with its dark temple, swamp and asylum, and go on an epic quest … for cactus.

And get blown up a little.

Just a quick interruption to show off my newest video.

I am developing a playable adventure map for Minecraft, inspired by Silent Hill and other horror games.

Of course, I cannot really control the mobs, alas, but I have a strong start on a map that actually gives *me* the willies in the night.

Also in this video I am showing off my horror texture pack (work in progress) and my personal, brighter texture pack (also in progress).

The game is in early stages, and might be released as chapters, I’m not sure. The title comes from a game a friend and I started but never finished. The Walter Freeman Asylum is not actually crimson.

"Journey of the Sorcerer" by the Eagles, probably best known for its use as the theme song for the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, both the BBC radio program and the movie.

"The Book House Boys" and "Night Life in Twin Peaks" by Angelo Badalamenti, from Twin Peaks, obviously.

"Promise" and "Laura’s Theme" (and their reprises) by Akira Yamaoka, from the Silent Hill 2 soundtrack.

Youtube has flagged this for copyright, but says “no further action is necessary” — hopefully, this means there will be iTunes links on the side, which, actually, I would prefer.

Video is a bit stuttery, I apologize for that. I’ll make some new teasers when I get more done. I hope you’ll all get to play this soon.

As always, feedback is more than welcome. It is craved.

Another teaser for the Crimson Asylum Minecraft map I am working on. This one is called “Escape.”

Aaaand my very first Minecraft how-to video!

This makes a very small “machine” that makes random, rapid, intermittent pulses that can power a door, noteblock or anything else redstone-related. I’m not sure of any practical applications, but I use it to make some interesting sound design in my map.

If you got the reference, you’re awesome.

I am awesome.

I have a build challenge for the people of WePlayMinecraft

That’s Crimson Asylum! I say we do it.

We build a Silent Hill themed town.  And when it’s finished, I’ll do a LIVE tour of the town, and EVERYONE in it has to wear Silent Hill skins.

And to top it all off, they have to use this texture pack.

I think this should definitely happen.

Crimson Asylum adventure map and texture pack

A couple of download options there.

I made a new Crimson Asylum teaser video. The music is Mike Oldfield, “Tubular Bells.”

I did a vanity google for “Crimson Asylum” Minecraft — and found the usual BS automatic agregators designed to fake people into cloicking through — but a number of legitimate mentions, and THREE videos reviewing the texture pack!

I have record of almost 3,000 downloads. Google also suggests that it is available for download in a number of other places (though I didn’t click, and they may actually be linking back to the original). Potentially, though, that means a BUTTLOAD of people are using — or have at least tried — the texture pack. Almost 1,000 map downloads, which is pretty awesome.

SOMETHING happened, though, because for the longest time the texture pack lagged behind the map.

UPDATE: from YouTube user SpankLP(the German one): “I ‘m amazed that you found my Video. I said in the Video I like your work really and enjoyed to present that really cool Texture Pack.” That makes me all warm inside.

The videos:

…and a fourth (sort of):

Build ALL the things!

I guess this is an “Odds and Ends” post.
